If you are a Christian, do you know what others feel about “Christians?” Have you too felt the growing disgust society has toward Christians ‘in general?’ Wondered what went wrong? In his new book, ”The Next Christians”, Author Gabe Lyons, co-authored his first book ‘unChristian’ after he resigned a prominent position in a Christian Ministry. For years, I’ve been given all the reasons why the Christian faith stinks! Now movies are available through popular distribution [rentals] about the despair and decline of the Christian faith. Join me in this journey to discover what can we do? Is there hope? Is our Christian faith disappearing all together?
What has caused this disillusion that young to middle age adults that have been raised in a Christian Home to abandon the Christian Faith? What went wrong? Why turn a deaf ear? Doesn’t the Bible promises “God satisfies the longing/searching soul.” Have you felt you guilt and are ashamed of being a Christian?
This concerns me and should concern all of us……I’ve felt that our religious freedom is slipping away. So…….what happened to that spiritual fervor we felt for months after the devastation of what we know call ’911.’ My generation had the Bible and 10 Commandments in school. Gabe Lyons has done extensive research which would help us see what we might expect in the future. The first chapters capture your attention and my question is: does Lyons really have insight and answers? You will want to read this book as he discusses his interview with Billy Graham. I’ve been told we are entering the ‘end times’ where the Christian beliefs are no longer tolerated. What happened to why we wanted Religious Freedom and fought for freedom from Englan? Join me as I continue on this journey. Is it possible that the we will see a new generation of Christian leaders. Hummmm. You will want to return and see the jewels ‘The Next Christians” offers to us.
I wouldn’t hesitate to pass this book on to our Leaders and Deacons in my church. We must now what is going on!
“I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.”
This is a concerning problem that others are trying to figure out too. I read a book by Ken Ham about the concern for the kids leaving the church as they get older. he has put emphasis on the fact that the Bible is not being completely accepted as the truth from front to back. Even in sunday school classes the stories of the OT are being taught as “stories”. Then the creation is the big thing that is being attacked. If people, especially those in authority, reject the actual 6 days of creation and accept some form of evolution, then when the kids are trying to understand salvation, they struggle with what “part” of the Bible is true and what is not.
I found it to be very eye opening. We need to teach our children that the Bible is about things that really happened and help them understand the attacks on the truth of the Bible so they will understand and believe God when He speaks to them. They will also then be able to stand against the adversary. It will be clear to them and they will not waver.
just a thought to add to the already mentioned thoughts.
Keep posted to the blog. I’m going to add to this discussion. You made some very valid points.
Thank you for your thoughts!

I am going to check this site out. Thanks for the info.
I have felt it too. I am hoping at least with my own children they grow-up and stay in their faith. I pray every day for this and as a family we read God’s word. I cannot tell them what they should do when they get older but I will do everything I can to help steer them in the right direction. I pray for our leaders every day too.
I realize that as I blog, The Next Christians, it might stir up mixed feelings in us. It reminds me of someone I know who went to a church for 16 years. They really believed everything they were taught. However, as they matured and moved away from this particular ‘legalistic’ church; they saw scripture in an entirely different way. If you speak to missionaries, they are taught to go into areas where the gospel has never been reached. They don’t go in and parade certain political or moral conditions that they believe in. Instead, they go in and befriend the people; learn their language; gain acceptance and they become the ‘light’ and the ‘salt’ of the earth. I might not be able to adequately relay the author’s message. However, I do know that what he is saying is “ringing truth” to my own heart. So, stay tuned in, while I blog this book. Thanks, as always, for visiting.
