Holiday Depression & Happiness
November 21, 2007 by woundedlily
It is not unusual, once the Holiday Season begins, for depression to attack us. We think of our past Holidays and the loss of our loved ones or painful separations due to work etc. We can also put ourselves into a frenzy state trying to busy ourselves with hard work.
In our family we celebrate Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I’m cooking dinner for my sister and nephew today. Tomorrow we go to my husband’s son’s home and then on Friday we go to our daughter’s home for brunch. I always get a little sad since it is necessary to celebrate different times, to accomodate those who do not like others in our family. We do the same at Christmas and my husband and I do it with a good attitude thankful just to be with them.
I wish I could call my Mom for a recipe or my Dad to help with the carving of the turkey but they have passed from this life. Both my husband and I are the grandparents. When we go tomorrow we will be having a dinner with my husband’s two sons and their family and my husband’s first wife. I am thankful that we can get together on this side of the family as one. My husband’s ex-wife and I get along and I enjoy her company.
Here is a passage from Ecclesiastes:
I tried to understand all that happens on earth. I saw how busy people are, working day and night and hardly ever sleeping. I also saw all that God has done. Nobody can understand what God does here on earth. No matter how hard people try to understand it, they cannot. Even if wise people say they understand, they cannot; no one really understands it. I thought about all this and tried to understand it. I saw that God controls good people and wise people and what they do.
God understands our pain during the Holiday Season. He knows your hurting heart and He wants us to turn our pain over to Him. While we think of our lives, remember the wonderful gift of memories God has given. Our theme for Thanksgiving is thanking Him for His unspeakable gift. That is life eternal. Regardless of our loved one’s eternal home; we are certain that if they could come back and impart to us words of wisdom it will always be the same: “Love the Lord with all your heart and soul.” We pray for our blog and that will include you. Put on uplifting music, get as much sunshine and take a walk. God’s loving arms will give you comfort, place yourself in His loving, open arms.
Happy Thanksgiving from our Home to yours.

What a beautiful post. I was just browsing through some blogs and came across yours. This sacred season can become overshadowed by grief or despair for so many people who have lost family members or who have experienced other truly traumatic hardships.
Be blessed this Thanksgiving, and may God use your blog to reach the hurting. Jesus is the only one who can heal brokenness and free us from whatever depression, addiction, oppressions we face in our lives.
May your Thanksgiving and Christmas season be filled with joy and hope!
